A Week in the Colorado Mountains, 9-24

While visiting  a relative in Golden, Colorado, we took time to tour surrounding areas.

Golden is the home of Coors Brewery and the Colorado School of Mines

The famous showman Buffalo Bill chose Lookout Mountain, a little west of Golden for his burial place. There is a museum here that details the life of this man. The mountain overlooks Golden and Denver and has views of the higher mountains to the west.

Boulder, Colorado is north of Golden along the front range of the Rockies. It is also the site of the University of Colorado. Off the road from Golden to Boulder is the small but interesting state park called, Eldorado Canyon.

A View over Boulder and the University, at Chautauqua Trail, which backs up to the Flatiron Mountains.

Further north from Boulder is the NE entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), at the town of Estes Park.

From the NE entrance to the Park is one road that travels west over the high mountains to the western side of the Park, and a road SW leading to Bear Lake, Alberta Falls and Sprague Lake.

Along the trail to Alberta Falls

Sometimes you might come upon a scene you that you like, but the photos taken don't come out the way you want. One thing you can do is to convert it to a painterly image.

Alberta Falls

Sprague Lake is a tranquil mountain lake with and easy 1 mile surrounding loop trail.

The road from Estes Park to the West side of RMNP goes up and over the Continental Divide. Several pull-offs offer mountain and valley views.

Exhibits of forest fire and recovery on the west side of RMNP

Coyote Valley on the western edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. The Colorado River meanders through the valley. The river's start is a short distance up the mountains.

Grand Lake is a town at the SW edge of the park. The town is beached at the edge of Grand Lake.

To the left of the lake and part way up the mountain is a trail that leads to Adam Falls.

Along the southern most border of RMNP is Lake Grandy. In the distance across the lake are frequently changing views of the mountains.

We left RMNP and drove to the south over Berthoud Pass. Click the arrow to the right or left to page through the images.

A short distance further south is the old mining town of Georgetown that is now a tourist attraction.

There is a pass (Guanella Pass) over the mountains to the west of Georgetown that leads to a high valley.

In the red hills above Golden is the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater. Click the arrows to page forward and backward.

A similar place to Red Rock Park is South Valley Park. Click the arrows.

Finally, wildlife, plants and aspen trunk.
